Drugstore Pick: Eyeshadow Sticks
Eyeshadow sticks were definitely one product that I had a suuuuuuper pre-conceived notion about, but was proved wrong after one use. My assumption? That a Drugstore-crayon stick of eyeshadow that claimed to wear for 24 hours would be 1. ugly and 2. would barely last a full-day. Let’s be real. I’m a working makeup artist and my kit is FULL of more fancy and expensive eyeshadow than I could ever possibly need. To get me out of my usual routine of brush and shadow palettes and be impressed, a product has got to be goooood. And welp….my assumptions were wrong. These are good. The two that I tried:
Rimmel Scandaleyes, $4 Shadow Sticks are big, waterproof, super creamy in consistency and lasts for 24 hours. And, it like, actually does. They are SO convenient. Draw some on your lids, smooth out with your fingers or a brush, and voila. Secondly, the consistency: It's so creamy, and glides on super smooth. And with it being a big fat almost-crayon, it's hard to mess up. Lastly, it stayed put ALL day without moving. Annnnnnd for testing purposes, I didn't even use an eyeshadow base with it.
NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencils $4: Super creamy, lots of color payout, and super easy to use. My ONLY complaint about these is that they don’t wear quite as long as the Rimmel ones. They creased a little without any type of shadow base underneath. Once I started with a shadow base, they lasted all day to night.
I packed a bronze shade ALL over my lid right up into the crease. Using my fingers, I blended out the crease line and even winged the end a little to see if it would last all day. To get that super smoky look, I took advantage of the thick pencil and used it to line my lower lash-line too. Then, I packed on tons of mascara on top and bottom. Using the lighter shade, I filled-in the area right under my brow to create a little dimension, blended it with my finger and DONE.
Verdict: GET THEM. These are the easiest and most convenient that eye shadow has ever been.
For the girl who is always worried or stressed to put on the perfect smoky eye, these babies make it EASY. I will always love powder eye shadows and will use them until the end of time. But if you're looking for a quicker, easier way to pull your face together in the morning without spending a lot of time OR needing a fast transition from day to night-time makeup, this is a GREAT addition to your makeup bag. Travelling or on-the-go girls: this is your new go-to. One light shade paired with one dark shade would be perfect for every day.
