Drugstore Pick: Concealer
Concealer. We all need it. (And if you don't...I don't buy it.) Even if you aren't using it to conceal problem areas all over your face, a little concealer on your under-eye will either brighten or conceal your tired, sleepy eyes.
My motto: Concealer hides your tired and makes you look alive.
Let's say you're strapped for time in the morning and have to do a super minimal look; A lightweight but brightening concealer is your new best friend. Applied under your eyes, down the bridge of your nose and to your high cheekbones will make your face look bright, rested and YOUNG. Hellllllllo anti-aging. Pair it with a little blush and a brow, and you'll look like you actually did most of your face, ALL day.
Last year during Drugstore month, I tried out two concealers. I loved one SO much, that to this day, I've continued to use it on myself AND others. It's the closest competitor to the Brightening twist-up pens found at a Dept. store and is SO fab. Last years throwback is the Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer. Because I want to expand my makeup horizons and try new things, I picked up two new ones this time around. One I loved, one I will return. Starting from the bottom...
2. Revlon Photoready Concealer Stick. $7-9. Looks like a lipstick, but made of concealer. I had every intention of loving it and I think 10 years ago, I would've been ALLLLLL over this. It is suuuper thick, which it absolutely my number one complaint. While thickness can often be desired to cover-up those bad breakouts or skin damaged spots because we assume it'll give you more or a longer amount of coverage, it often ends up standing out more than actually concealing. And it gets worse: When you apply a thicker concealer on your under-eye, it's practically a guarantee that after an hour or two, every single line or wrinkle around your eye area will re-emerge, but saturated in concealer. A thick concealer on blemishes can often enhance it and highlight it. No thanks. I'm ALL for great coverage and a finish that'll stay put all day, but I'm NOT for a concealer that makes me look older than I am and enhances the very things that I'm trying to hide!!
Verdict: Pass on it. There are PLENTY of full-coverage concealers out there that aren't as thick but will still do the same job!
1. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer: $5-7. Loved this stuff. I don't usually subscribe to the idea that
makeup has to be SUPER healthy and free of certain ingredients. I FULLY understand that people have allergies, health concerns and issues that have to be addressed! But I don't pay a ton of attention to that when it comes to my own face. (Oil-free is my jam...everything else is just a welcomed extra.) But this Fit Me concealer is fragerance-free, oil-free, wax-free and dermatologist-tested and approved. It has AWESOME, buildable coverage and lightweight finish that looks and feels like your natural skin. Ultimately, it barely feels (or looks) like you're wearing it. I applied a generous amount to my under-eye and a few pimples on my skin and it blended perfectly into my foundation, highlighted the right areas and looked great. Verdict: I'd buy this over MANY Dept. store concealers! Love the coverage, love the consistency, love that it doesn't enhance my lines whatsoever!
A good concealer will minimize things you want to hide...not enhance them. Hope this helps you decide what Drugstore pick is right for you!
