SHADE. The good...the bad...and the UG.
DRUGSTORE PICKS: SHADOWS
We're intoxicated by 'em, we love 'em and we buy hundreds of 'em. Eyeshadow is the easiest way to dramatize your every-day makeup. A pop of color or a blast of dark shadow work as total game-changing ways to change up your look. Wanna be subtle?? The right glowy champagne color make you look like you share a vanity with Kendall Jenner, which hello......is my dream.
With SO many options on the market, HOW do you chose the RIGHT ones?? We need them to last, we need them NOT to crease, we need them to hold and be pigmented enough to even show up...... Ugh. The list of qualifications is long. But shadow matters. The right subtle shade can make your eyes look big, bright, less tired and every morning....that's ALWAYS what I want. Tried a few drugstore goodies....let's get to it.
1. Loreal Infallible Single Eyeshadows
The stats/claims: (pulled STRAIGHT from their website:) L’Oréal Paris introduces an ultra intense eye shadow that lasts from day until dawn—a full 24 hours. This revolutionary formula fuses the ease of a powder with the velvety caress of a cream to create a unique hybrid that glides on effortlessly. And with its unique technology, your eyes are enhanced with pure, magnified pigment. Make a lasting impression without batting an eye. Intense, maximized color, luxurious powder-cream texture, 24-hour long-lasting hold, Waterproof, crease resistant and fade resistant.
The verdict: LOVE IT. Like seriously.....love it so hard. I grabbed the champagne-ish shade pictured above and it is PERFECT for every day all-over AND for highlighting on days where you're using darker or more colorful shades. The texture is bomb....it sort of feels like velvet, but LOOSE velvet. The loose-powder shadow option kind of threw me off initially but when applied to your lid, the powder grabs hold of your skin and applies like a literal velvet. I'm INTO them for real. I bought one, and will likely go back and buy more. Especially because I didn't even realize HOW long-wear and crease resistant that they are. REMINDER: You always want to apply eyeshadow, (especially loose!) over top of an eyeshadow primer that will hold it in place without creasing all day. I wrote about a drugstore one last week in a post called "EXTRAS" if you wanna check it out. All-in-all, this shadow wins. Retails for $7-9 where Loreal is sold.
2. Covergirl Eyeshadow Quad
The stats/claims: Pulled from website: luminous color, enriched with skin conditioners for smooth, even application, and available in rich, buildable color pigments, now you can go from subtle to dramatic in the blink of an eye.
The verdict: Garbage. Absolute garbage. I can't believe people are selling this product as an eyeshadow. I think I'd have a better chance of getting pigment on my eye by going into my back yard, rubbing my fingers in wet grass and then applying immediately to my eyes. There was no "buildable pigment"in my quad. I attempted using this product with a brush and when that didn't work, I used my finger but still didn't get much out of it. I would never recommend this product, nor will i use it again. Retails $8.
3. Maybelline Blushed Nudes Palette
The stats/claims: Offers great colors that are perfect for everyone. These shades have great pigment and will help you achieve the perfect day or evening look.
The verdict: So great and cute!! The pigments are good, the color range is excellent going perfectly from light to dark and everything in between, and the product lasts great on top of an eyeshadow primer. I've definitely used this palette more than every other Drugstore month pick in a variety of ways. In fact, I've worn combinations of these shadows in every Youtube video that's gone live this month. I really like it and see it as a MAJOR heavy-hitter in the Drugstore Eyeshadow world. AND if that wasn't enough...it's a great dupe for the Urband Decay Eyeshadow Palette, which costs four times as much. No brainer right?? Retails for $10. Get it!!!
Hope you got some insight into the best, (and worst) Drugstore Eyeshadow picks out there!!
